Prepared Speech
|
|
My interest in Prepared Speech was sparked by removing my fear
of facing a large audience and communicating without breaking into a cold sweat
sparked my interested in prepared speech. I realized that within Skills Canada they
had a range of clubs for employment skills, technological skills to service skills.
|
|
My inspiration is anyone around me, who are able to publically
speak without enduring the humiliation of addressing a large audience. Their confidence
boosted my confidence to persevere and improve my presentation skills to a vast
array of people. My advisors all helped me during my speech writing process, practicing
my speech and giving me words of encouragement before the competition. All the support
added to my self-confidence to deliver my speech with assuredness.

My fondest memory with Skills Canada Nunavut was being selected
to go to Waterloo for the Skills National competition for prepared speech which
allowed me the privilege to be overswept with a feeling of jubilee. Preparing for
the speech took an excruciating amount of time, yet the moment that brought tears
into my eyes was during the closing ceremonies. Sitting with the rest of the Skills
Nunavut team and waiting for the results brought a feeling of anxiety. Finally when
they announced “Nunavut” and my name I felt a sense of triumph erupt in me. All
my hard work preparing for this moment finally paid off. Winning a bronze medal
in prepared speech will be one of my highest achievements and I am tremendously
proud of myself.

|
Skills Canada has helped me to improve myself as a person. Prepared
speech was not the only skills clubs that I took part in, cooking and baking were
among the other clubs I practiced. All the clubs helped me become more independent,
whether speaking to a group of people or serving a meal for a hundred. The knowledge
that I gained during my sessions in each skills club boosted my ability to face
dilemmas. All the skills I learned will always stay with me and Skills Canada is
who helped me learn and appreciate them.
|
|
My future career goals are still undetermined, but all the skills
I gained will help me while I live independently. The benefits of Skills Canada
helped me become a well-rounded person because certain skills need to be obtained
first hand and not through books. These on-hand skills will become an asset for
my future career.
