Chariot of Champions / Cardboard Qamotiq Race

Contact us to host this ½ day event for your students and community.

The Challenge

A group of four - six students will design and construct a toboggan/qamotiq and race the crafts on a snow track in the schoolyard. Students will be given the materials to construct the qamotiq, and will have one-hour building time. We suggest that you design a prototype of your qamotiq prior to the event. This will allow you to work out any problems that you may encounter on the day of the event and give you enough time to complete the construction of the qamotiq.

The Chariot should slide well and be able to take a beating. The propulsion will come from three members of each team pushing or dragging at least one teammate on the qamotiq through the racecourse.

Chariots will be judged on design, speed, and endurance. Each race will be timed, and recorded by our panel of judges. Please refer to the judging sheet for the scoring breakdown.

The Purpose

Much of this challenge involves design and construction. Students who enjoy these aspects may wish to consider careers in the trades and technologies.
