Territorial Skills Competition

Nunavut will hold its 7th Territorial Skills Competition in April 3rd of 2012. The following contest areas are to be showcased: Cooking, Baking, Restaurant Service, Worksite Safety, Hairdressing, Job Interview, Job Skill Demonstration, TV/Video Production, Graphic Design, Web Site Development, Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical Wiring, Aesthetics, Welding, Jewelry Making, Small Engine Repair, and Prepared Speech. More details about each competition are in the scopes below.

The Skills Competition provides an excellent opportunity for young people to demonstrate their creative talents, skills and determination in a public arena. It is also a time to reward excellence in the trades and technologies sectors. Through this incredible demonstration of talents and skills, skilled careers in trades and technologies are highlighted and positively profiled for students, parents, educators and the public in general.

In 1999, Skills Canada NWT/NU hosted the 1st Territorial Skills Competition. Each year, this competition has grown in size and popularity. This is the fifth year Nunavut will be hosting its own Territorial Skills Competition in many skilled trade and technology contest areas. This is an exciting event and an excellent opportunity for students and apprentices to meet and compete with peers.

Check out the Skills Club page for more information about the possible competition areas for the 2011 Territorial Skills Competition that will be held in April in Iqaluit.
