Skills Clubs

Skills Clubs are extra-curricular programs for high school students that are organized by volunteers in the community who are interested and willing to share their expertise. The majority of the Skills Clubs operate on an 8 week cycle, 2 hours per week throughout the year. Skills Canada Nunavut provides resources, events, and encouragement for the territorial high schools and private businesses that have been generous in their support of Skills Clubs in past years.

Through participation, students have an opportunity to:

  • Obtain hands-on experience with a skilled career option;
  • Interact with industry professionals in their areas of expertise
  • Expand their portfolio content through relevant work experiences;
  • Develop skills for use at Territorial, National, and World Skills Competitions;
  • Potentially obtain employment/apprenticeship placement in their skill area.

Students who excel at their trade or technology, will have the opportunity to attend a territorial skills competition in Iqaluit in April and possibly even attend the National Competition at the end of the school year.

We are always looking for ways to provide students with experiences that will enable them to make positive career choices. If you have an idea for a Skills Club and/or are willing to facilitate/instruct a club please contact us.
